These are wonderful and long lasting! I have owned the same pair for over 15 years. Be sure buy a size that stretches only moderately. And store them in a ziplock bag to keep the rubber from drying out. (Some are buying too small and stretching the rubber too much.)
These things were great for walking around my neighborhood of unpaved roads, but in retrospect, I should have washed them after each use. I assume the salt the city put down helped in their downfall.
I have had several pairs of Yaktrax over ten years or more. They have always worked well for me. I had one break in that time and it was still useable until I replaced it. They will wear out at some point and it might be useful to have a second pair. These are nothing like crampons - they are much more practical. I can't understand the number of negative reviews. I do suggest they be used only when necessary and never walk on hard floors with them.

Kids gifted these coiled cletes 3 winters ago. They were great at first but last year the coils began to break. This year the elastic bands are breaking. I will replace them with something more rugged.
I've had mine for over 5 years and I'm going to get another pair because these are showing signs of rubber wear. I have begun to notice that some of the springs are now tending to "walk (unwind?)" off the rubber, which seems to cause that particular rubber "arm" to get caught under the spring and start to wear thru. But 5+ years of saving my butt on icey sidewalks is good enough for me !
